POSTPONED DUE TO POOR WEATHER
I’m thrilled to announce that I will be giving a special talk on Art from the Warwick Castle archive on Saturday 3rd March 2018 starting at 3.15pm. The lecture will form part of the AGM of the Friends of the Warwickshire County Record Office, which is open to members and guests at £3 per ticket.
The talk will cover a variety of materials relating to the Grevilles of Warwick Castle as both creators and collectors of art. Including will be a vast number of drawings, sketches and watercolours, many completed by various Earls of Warwick and their close family. Notably, during the eighteenth century many of the Grevilles were trained by celebrated artists in draftsmanship and the art of watercolours, including by the likes of Alexander Cozens, John ‘Warwick’ Smith and William Payne. Also included will be various drawings made on their Grand Tours, accompanied by diary entries which have only recently surfaced in the many uncatalogued boxes of the Warwick Castle archive.
The lecture will end with a brief summary of my progress thus far into the artistic achievements of Anne Charteris (1829-1903), 4th Countess of Warwick.
